Betty Webb

Betty Webb is the author of the nationally best-selling Lena Jones mystery series (DESERT WIVES, DESERT NOIR, DESERT WIND, DESERT RAGE, etc.) and the humorous Gunn Zoo mysteries (THE PUFFIN OF DEATH, THE LLAMA OF DEATH, etc.). Before beginning to write full time, Betty worked as a journalist, interviewing everyone from U.S. presidents, astronauts who walked on the moon, Nobel Prize-winners, and polygamy runaways. She and has been a nationally-syndicated literary critic for more than 20 years. For the past 10 years, she has been a columnist and reviewer for Mystery Scene Magazine. CLASSES & WORKSHOP: A partial list of the creative writing classes Betty has taught include: Master Classes at ASU’s Virginia Piper School of Creative Writing; Phoenix College GET DATES; Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI); writing classes for the Maricopa County Library Association for one summer (2013); writing classes for Arizona State Library for two summers (2014 & 2015, throughout the state, including St. Johns & Nogales); Betty was honored to be a 2014 lecturer for the Humanities Lecture Series hosted by the School of Letters and Sciences; workshops at Tucson Book Festival, the West Valley Writers Association Conference, and the Oklahoma Writers Association. Among the classes & workshops Betty teaches are: “Writing the Contemporary Novel,” “Writing the Mystery Novel and Thriller,” “Get Five Story Ideas a Day, Every Day,” and “Writing the Memoir/Family History.” Besides teaching creative writing, Betty has been a panelist at various national writers’ conferences, such as Bouchercon in California; Left Coast Crime, in Denver, CO; Mayhem in the Midlands, in Boise, Idaho; Malice Domestic, in Washington DC; and many more. Betty is also the founder of the Society of Southwestern Authors – Valley of the Sun Chapter, where she has served as the president. Her books are available in all print formats, hard bound, soft cover, mass market paperbacks, large print, CDs, and books on tape for Books for the Blind. PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS: Betty is an active member of National Federation of Press Women, American Association of Zookeepers, Mystery Writers of America, The Writers Guild, Sisters in Crime, Society of Southwestern Authors (both Tucson & Phoenix chapters), and Scottsdale Society of Women Writers.
